How Has The TV Industry Changed Over The Years?

The TV industry has always been very fast-moving but has dramatically changed over the past decade. With changes to how people watch and new styles of entertainment, directed in different ways. This has been influenced by a variety of directors including the British director, Anthony Philipson who has worked on multiple award-winning television shows.

Streaming Services

One of the biggest factors in the change to TV in recent years has been the introduction of online streaming services. From Netflix and Amazon Prime to Disney+, there’s so much choice at your fingertips. Viewers getting used to watching without adverts and the next episode being there to watch immediately. You don’t have to wait for anything. This has resulted in users becoming impatient and wanting instant gratification. This has changed the pace of TV shows to meet viewers' needs.

Reality-TV

Another thing that has quickly risen in popularity in recent years is reality television. The leading TV genre has generally always been entertainment but only in the last decade is reality TV leading the charts. When looking back at the most popular genres through the years, we learn that the most popular genre in the 60s and 70s was family entertainment. Drama in the 80s, comedy in the 90s and 2000s, and reality TV in the 2010s. One of the original and most popular reality shows is Big Brother which the first series was worked on by Anthony Philipson who helped to make it the big success that it is today.

Interactive Media

The instruction of online streaming services has also added the idea of interactive watching, allowing the viewer to choose the outcome of certain scenarios throughout the movie or TV show. The first example of this was the Netflix movie Bandersnatch that came out in 2018. This adds to the personalized viewing experience streaming services are offering by giving each family member their profile with recommendations tailored to your watching habits.
