TV Shows That Have Revolutionised Modern TV

Anthony Philipson is a British television director, producer, and writer. He has been hugely influential in creating a variety of popular TV shows that have changed the future of modern TV.

Big Brother

Anthony began his television career by working on entertainment shows. This included the groundbreaking first series of Big Brother which is now a classic staple on our screens. Big Brother kicked off a global TV phenomenon and popular trend of reality TV, that we’re still enjoying today. 19 series later, Big Brother has dramatically revolutionised modern TV with new seasons being filmed all around the globe and the invention of Celebrity Big Brother. This has had a huge impact on the TV we watch today by raising the popularity of reality TV and encouraging the creation of new shows such as Love Island which has taken the UK by storm in recent years.

Documentaries

From Big Brother, Anthony Philipson then moved onto documentaries and factual television directing. The most notable series being Channels 4’s 24 hours In A&E and BAFTA winning Ross Kemp On Gangs. Anthony was also responsible for directing the entire first series of 24 Hours In A&E, which went on to win both ‘Best Documentary Series’ and ‘Best Multicamera Series’ in the 2012 Royal Television Society Awards. Now an ever-present on British TV with 23 seasons, the show has introduced a new style of television to our screens.

Dramas

Anthony’s next venture was into TV drama where he has not only displayed his directing skills but his writing skills too. Anthony directed and wrote the Channel 4 one-off drama Shamed and the drama-documentary Liverpool Narcos for Sky. Anthony Philipson’s most successful dramas, however, are the BBC1 primetime drama Our Girl, starring Lacey Turner and the multi-award nominated 8 Days To The Moon And Back. This followed the story of the Apollo 11 mission as told by the first men to walk on the moon.
